Your Week Aboard Angelique

You are welcomed aboard the Angelique by Captain Mike and Lynne anytime after 5 p.m. on the evening prior to sailing. Angelique leaves her berth in Camden's inner harbor after a hearty breakfast for all. Camden is located on U.S. Route 1, about 85 miles from Portland. There is air service to Rockland, 8 miles away, Portland and Bangor. Angelique's all-inclusive rate includes free, secure parking.

Life aboard the Angelique is relaxed and informal; one big and very happy family. Plan your clothing for the week accordingly, with comfortable, casual, outdoor clothing the rule. A warm sweater or jacket for the cool sea breezes is helpful, and foul weather gear in case there is a bit of weather. Of course, a swimsuit is essential, as are boat shoes. You may want to bring a hat, sunglasses and sunblock.

Meals aboard the Angelique are served family style and include roasts, shipboard- baked pastry, salads and Maine's own seafood. Fresh fruit and vegetables, Maine grown, are delivered to the Angelique before she sets sail for the week. Special diets are easily accomodated when notice is given. The best description of the Angelique's meals was voiced by a native of the Pine Tree state, "Good food, plenty of it."

Feel energetic? Take the helm! Chart a course! Furl a sail! Before we see port again, our friendly crew will have you grounded in the basics of blue water sailing. Feel lazy? Relax on deck reading a book or watch the ever-changing Maine coast, the play of light on water, the birds wheeling in our wake. The choice of how you spend your days under the spell of a sailing ship at sea, is always yours.

There is always plenty of time to go ashore and explore, with Angelique's 2 rowing boats, quiet Maine coastal villages and rugged granite, timber-topped islands.

Cruise the Coast of Maine

The word that graphically describes a week aboard the Angelique is serenity, as she sails along Maine's majestic coast. There is no other vacation experience which duplicates the tranquil yet invigorating days aboard the Angelique under full canvas on Penobscot Bay.

The romanticism of sail never fails to fully capture the imagination of all, no matter what the age or profession. And Maine's midcoast jagged beauty offers the ultimate in nature. It is the perfect combination for those who revere tradition and beauty. Under canvas, the Angelique leaves her berth in picturesque Camden on first tide Monday morning to sail the numerous bays and islands between Portland and Bar Harbor.

The Angelique makes her way with the prevailing winds and tides to such favorites as Mt. Desert, Swan's Island, or Frenchman Bay. Each day under sail is a nautical adventure, the destination unknown. The vessel plows through the deep, blue water, a lighthouse standing on an isle in the far distance, while on occasion a porpoise or a seal plays tag with the Angelique. Osprey, the sea eagle, soars overhead. Every evening, the Angelique drops anchor in a friendly, snug harbor of a village or town or off an uninhabited island. A Maine summer sunset ends the perfect sailing day, the giant red ball slowly nestling behind the tall, stately pines.

On one evening, the Angelique's "crew" lands on the sandy beach of one of the hundreds of Penobscot Bay islands for a Down East feast of lobster and corn, cooked to perfection over driftwood. The tang of the sea air and the comradeship heighten the appetites of all for this famed Maine lobsterbake.
